The Faculty of Philology with its rich traditions and qualified teaching staff is one of the youngest at the university. It originates from the Faculty of History and Philology, where more than 1,000 qualified specialists were prepared over the period of its existence.
The Faculty of Philology trains specialists in major disciplines (fields of study) and specializations (educational programs):
• Secondary education (Ukrainian language and literature), additional specialization – Country studies (Ukraine);
• Secondary education (Ukrainian language and literature), additional specialization – Language and literature (English);
• Secondary education (Language and literature (Russian), additional specialization – Language and literature (English);
• Secondary education (Language and literature (Russian), additional specialization – Ukrainian language and literature.
Students gain professional experience in the course of practical training at leading educational institutions. After graduation, students can work as teachers of the Ukrainian, Russian and English languages, Ukrainian and world literature as well as work in mass media (as journalists, broadcasters, radio and TV presenters), translators / interpreters, translators / interpreters-consultants, civil servants.
Upcoming trends in the Faculty’s international collaboration is internationalization of educational and research activity, development of scholar schools, cooperation with European institutions, organizing international research conferences, academic competitions, contests, festivals, summer schools; participating in scientific and educational associations, academic and cultural exchanges.
Teaching staff of the Faculty implement the latest teaching techniques and use innovative technologies. They work on modernization of the educational process and research activities. Theoretical and practical training is provided by the qualified teaching personnel, among them: 6 Doctors of Sciences, professors, 29 Candidates of Sciences, associate professors. A widely known scholar school established by professor V. P. Drozdovskyi has been developed by some of his successors, such as Doctors of Sciences and professors M. Kh. Humennyi, O. A. Kopus and others.
The departments of the Faculty maintain scientific and cultural connections with many universities of Ukraine, China, Canada, Moldova, Lithuania, Slovakia and other countries.
The students of the Faculty of Philology have the opportunity to undertake an internship in many universities. The professional skills of the students are developed during educational, dialectological, folklore practices. They take an active part in various national academic competitions and contests.
The teaching process at the Faculty of Philology is focused on the students’ skills to master modern linguo-cultural values and their capability to develop the personality of a professional philologist.
